| The Allegheny County Health Department Region 13, Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is continuously recruiting medical and non-medical personnel to become a volunteer, available to respond to a disaster or public health emergency. This corps of volunteers would provide surge capacity to hospitals and other treatment/shelter sites. The local medical system will not be able to attend to the anticipated increase of persons arriving at hospitals and emergency rooms. |
| The MRC is a national effort presently consisting of 794 units with 171,000 volunteers. |
| Training courses on-line and by lectures are provided. |
| Activation is voluntary. |
