Vice Provost George Klinzing understands the drive to explore the unknown and solve problems.
He has spent most of his career as a research professor in chemical engineering, pursuing
his own passion for materials processing. I enjoy finding novel and creative solutions
to problems, he says. Its very stimulating and rewarding to see your ideas applied and
recognized by your peers. As Vice Provost for Research since 1995, George Klinzing has had
the privilege of directing his passion toward helping the entire community of research
faculty, staff, and students achieve their own career satisfaction and research success. ....

Linda Ambroso Interface Team ambroso4@verizon.net |
Linda Tanzini Ambroso is a consultant on security, education, and government relations
issues. A graduate of Leadership Pittsburgh, she is working with the Center for
National Preparedness to create a certificate in advanced emergency management.
Her Washington experience includes stints on Capitol Hill and at the U.S. Navy and
U.S. State Department, where she worked on defense policy and arms proliferation issues.
Ambroso is a public member of the State Board of Nursing.

Yu Wang is a Ph.D. Student in Department of Industrial Engineering at University of
Pittsburgh. His major research topic is about simulation aided decision making in
disaster response. Besides that, he also participates into two projects about
innovative design. He received his MS degree from University of Pittsburgh in
Industrial Engineering and received MS and BS degree from Tsinghua University
(China) in Mechanical Engineering.

Brad Kuhlman is a graduate student researcher (GSR) with the Center for National Preparedness (CNP).
He graduated in April with a Bachelor's of Science in Information Science from the University of
Pittsburgh. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Information Science program at the University of
Pittsburgh with a focus on Information Security.

David Nawn is a Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) with the Center for National Preparedness at the
University of Pittsburgh. He completed the Undergraduate program in the School of Information Science
and received his Bachelor of Science in Information Science (BSIS) from the University of Pittsburgh
in April of 2009. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Information Science (MSIS) at the
University of Pittsburgh while working on the D4S2 research project.

Bopaya Bidanda Simulation Team bidanda@pitt.edu |
Bopaya Bidanda is currently the Ernest E. Roth Professor and Chairman of the Department of
Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He has previously served as
the President of the Council of Industrial Engineering Academic Department Heads
(CIEADH) also on the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
Prof. Bidanda has a secondary appointment as Professor of Business Administration
at the Katz Graduate School of Business and also as a Visiting Professor & Fellow
of the EU Center for Rapid & Sustainable Product Development at the Instituo Politechnico
de Leiria, Portugal. ....

Larry J. Shuman is Senior Associate Dean for Academics and Professor of Industrial Engineering at
the University of Pittsburgh. His research focuses on improving the engineering educational experience
with an emphasis on assessment of design and problem solving, the study of the ethical behavior of
engineers and engineering managers; he is also studying responses to natural and man-made disasters.
A former senior editor of the Journal of Engineering Education, Dr. Shuman is the founding editor of Advances
in Engineering Education. He received his Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University in Operations Research and the
BSEE from the University of Cincinnati.

Louis Luangkesorn Simulation Team lol11@pitt.edu |
Dr. Louis Luangkesorn is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department
of Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He received his
PhD in Industrial Engineering from Northwestern University and an MA in
Science, Technology and Public Policy from The George Washington
University. Dr. Luangkesorn's research interests are simulation and supply
chain management, with a focus on applications in homeland security and
public health. Current projects include modeling public health Laboratory
Reference Network (LRN) labs for the CDC, locating disaster relief
supplies for the American Red Cross and simulating disaster responses
within urban areas. Past projects include locating logistics facilities
for the U.S. Air Force and deployed analytical support for U.S. forces in
Afghanistan.

Bruce Y. Lee, MD, MBA is Assistant Professor of Medicine, Epidemiology,
and Biomedical Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh. He directs
a research group, Public Health and Infectious Diseases Computational
and Operations Research (PHICOR), that specializes in designing
epidemiologic, economic, and operational computer models that help
tackle infectious diseases of global importance. He is a Co-Investigator
for the NIH Modeling of Infectious Diseases Agent Study (MIDAS) network
and a Co-Investigator for the Vaccine Modeling Initiative, funded by the
Gates Foundation. Dr. Lee also has authored three books. Dr. Lee received
his B.A. from Harvard University, M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and
M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and is board-certified
in Internal Medicine.

Bob Regan regan@pitt.edu |
Dr. Regan is a Visiting Professor at the University of Pittsburgh and a Research Associate
of the Center for National Preparedness. He specializes in geographic information systems (GIS)
and database design. His professional career includes senior level positions in the federal
government, major corporations, and universities. Dr. Regan has extensive background in the
development of GISes as spatial decision support systems. Prior to joining the university,
he worked as GIS Program Manager, establishing a GIS presence in several companies and
responsible for GIS projects for state agencies, toll road authorities, and municipalities. ....
